Author: Kelly Stevenson
Genre: New Adult Student / Teacher Romance
Release Date: July 12, 2014
Synopsis
"I blast the stereo in a vain attempt to drown out my thoughts. I don’t want to be thinking about him and analyzing every detail of first period. It makes me feel like a young, foolish girl, and I’m embarrassed that I can’t control the way my body reacts every time his eyes meet mine." In a quiet town in the East Valley of Phoenix, Arizona, everything in life is seemingly perfect for eighteen-year-old Kaley Kennedy. She has loving parents, loyal friends, and is dating the hottest boy in school. With only a few months left of her senior year, she’s looking forward to an epic summer before heading off to Los Angeles for college.
Without warning, a gorgeous new math teacher interrupts Kaley’s predictable little world, challenging who she is. Suddenly, parties, dates, and Friday nights with her friends seem empty and unfulfilling as she finds herself obsessing over his every move. Desperate for something more, but determined to ignore her fierce attraction, every single relationship in her life begins to crumble by forces beyond her control. Struggling to transition from adolescence to adulthood, Kaley must choose between playing it safe or risking more than just her heart. . . .
Excerpt:
I slip through the crowd, keeping a focused stare on Mr. Slate. He’s still leaning against the wall with his hands comfortably in his pockets, no longer looking my way. With my shoulders back, I step in front of him, sliding a hand on my hip.
“What the hell was that about?” I shout through the blaring music.
“Kaley,” he says, glancing around the ballroom. “What are you doing?” His voice is firm, but quiet.
“What am I doing?” I spit out. “I’m dancing with my boyfriend at prom, what are you doing?”
He lifts a shoulder. “I’m chaperoning.”
“Is that all?” I ask.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he says, peering down his nose at me.
I step closer, meeting him squarely in the eye. “Really? Because it looks like you’re enjoying my dress, Mr. Slate.”
Anger flashes through his eyes as he steps forward, away from the wall. “Kaley, stop,” he warns. He folds his arms and scans the room over my head. “Just walk away.”
Review:
I love a good teacher-student romance
book so when I read the synopsis I was quick to say I need to read this book. I’ve
only read a handful of NA romance books. Mostly because I like books with a lot
of hot sex scenes but even without the full on sex scenes this book was phenomenal.
Kaley
is on the last few month of her senior year of high school and she couldn’t be
happier. Except for her parents fighting late at night constantly, it seems she
has the prefect life, but sometimes life is cruel and her life is about to be
turned upside down.
One
day, her math teacher dies and is replaced by the hunky gorgeous teacher Mr.
Slate. The attraction that Kaley feels for Mr. Slate is immediate but so is
ever other female students. By just one glance, Mr. Slate has shook up Kaley’s
life and has her questioning her relationship with her boyfriend Tommy. What
was once a life of parties and spending time with her bf quickly turns into
needing Mr. Slate to notice her and obsessing over him.
What
will happen if Mr. Slate returns Kaley’s attraction toward him?
How far
will they be willing to take it?
I loved
this book so much that I find myself bursting at the seams with needing to tell
you all about it. Believe me, I would love to tell you more about this book but
I’m afraid that once I get started I won’t be able to stop and I will spoil
this fabulous book for the rest of you. So, I will control myself.
Kelly Stevenson has completely
altered my perception of NA romance books and I will quickly read any other
books by her in a heartbeat. Her writing style and her characters quickly
captured me while reading and would not let me go until the end of the book,
even then I found myself hours later thinking back on everything I read.
This
book is one I will gladly recommend to anyone and everyone who will listen.
